The past is our definition. We may strive, with good reason, to escape it, or to escape what is bad in it, but we will escape it only by adding something better to it. ~Wendell BerryJust the other day I was online checking my social life (just imagine, I have to do everything online!) when a friend from the university sent a message when I left a comment on a link we shared. We are socially connected online, but I really don't have much to say. I mean James is a wonderful friend and all back in college but it's really more on affiliation than a common interest... Now I'm not entirely avoiding the past (so to speak). I'm just taking a break - fasting.
To say I'm on a "Past Diet Program" is an exaggeration. I do see John every now and then since I started working, he's the one updating me on what is happening since I left the university. I'm just not into the past - as of now. My job's been occupying my time since I am after a promotion. Avoiding the past so to speak is incorrect, I'm just "fully booked". But to reason out work for my absence from social gatherings is still under the category of "my-dog-ate-my-homework" taglines.
Fasting from my past is just a way for me to buy some time to set some improvements. Personal development is really not easy - most especially if you're at mid 20's. Turning the page was the greatest decision that I made. The past is still there, I just added a few more pages and another new chapter came up.
